Hi all

New member(chris), just bought myself a 1993 mx5 1600 turbo,
thinking of poking a bit of money into it....

First of all its purple. Well kaleidoscope. That needs to change.

It has an HKS turbo kit (td04), Vr4 intercooler set, and an HKS oil cooler.
I was told it had an HKS piggyback computer, but after further investigation I have no idea what it is, HKS platform suspension, brass button clutch and a Cusco LSD(very tight).

Things i do not like and want to change.
Paint
Injectors, currently running standard(shouldn't these be larger with turbo)
ECU, looking at a megasquirt( My fuel efficiency is terrible 150km per tank)
Seats, the current ones are terrible! no one fits, even I struggle, being my daily I have to do something about them. So if any one can help source some new seats that would be awesome.

So if anyone can help it would be much appreciated :).hope i'm not asking to much for a newby ;)

Would post pictures, but will as soon as i'm allowed

two racing buckets, I'm 6"3 and the cant go all the way back due to the roll cage... so they make for a terrible "get in and out" set up

Welcome.
You should definitely have bigger injectors,
The size will depend on how much boost you are running/plan to run.
For up to 6 or 7 psi, 330s or 360s are OK, 8 to 12 psi you'll need 440s, above 12 psi go for 550s. All are available if you scout around. You might just have to modify the plugs to suit (MX5s have a relatively unusual oval plug) and, if you can't get high impedance versions, have to add a resistor pack.
Megasquirts are becoming quite popular in NZ (have been in the US for years). They're not the easiest to tune but have lots of good features.
Good luck with your mods.

Speaking of seats. Put in a roll bar and now I'm kind of cramped as I cant quite get the seat all the way back. Can anyone recommend some seats / rails to install for 1.80m/6" and normal size that would put me lower in and allow me to slid the seat back? Or where I should head to get an idea?

Welcome

Some Rx7 460cc Injectors should be fine direct fit
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 296661.htm

Next ECU Megasquirt is good there is a guy on miata turbo that does a full plug and play megasquirt for any year miata and even includes a base map that should get you running
http://www.miataturbo.net/showthread.php?t=14598

Paint there are a couple guys on here Sprista(Cole) and such that are painters otherwise GT Refinishers are always a good choice

Seats would have to see your current setup to help there.

Ok, I have a Momo T-Frame which is excellent for driving but a literal pain to get into and out of but it is somewhat 'low volume' so does seat the occupant very low and far back (I'm 6"1') which is great, having had a wee look round it seems that like everything seating is a compromise of some sort!

I tried fitting an Autosports seat in mine, it ruined the driving experience completely! However now that i have a roll bar installed and can't slide the factory seats back far enough I'm going to have to look into some seating options as things are a tad uncomfortable. Let me know how you get on!
Cool sunroof bro...

The Momo Corse is a good seat if you can get one.
It has a low seating position, will fit on the standard seat slides with a bit of a fiddle, and also slides farther back than the standard MX5 seat if you have half cage.

If you're going for replicas you may as well go for NZKW or something and save substantial coin, IMO.

Unless you just want JDM-Bride-yo wank factor, in which case it's pretty lame getting replicas :P

I want whatever works the best, and NZkws are not the greatest, i would be relatively happy with bride knockoffs but would prefer the real thing... without the price tag

Wow, I am impressed by all the feedback, seems i have come to the right place :).

Ordered some factory seats from partsworld today, $215 shipped, i think the problem is my roll cage atm, stopping seats from sliding all the way back etc.

Uhm for the chap asking about the seats they are generic racing buckets in a sun fadded red lol.

As for injectors got 4 out of a 3sge 315cc? dont quote me but these should improve thing a little until i get a new ecu that can run them

will keep that in mind, really need to do something about my ecu before I can run injectors that big, but if you want to get rid of em, i could buy them off ya in preperation. I get about 150km to a tank of 95 atm, not great mileage, i swear as soon as i start to hit boost my injectors are going into full duty cycle, and not having a clue what kind of piggback it is, doesnt help, little unmarked black box, not much info there....

Also if i am going to do all this i imagine i will be wanting to run alot
more the 8psi through it, any opinions of what sort of boost the miata engine can take before melting a piston or blowing rods? I have heard that they are exactly the same bottom end as a b6t motor but there is a lot of hearsay around actual information. I would pull it apart and check it out myself, but as i said previously this is my daily and i need it to be that for the next few months atleast.

I'm having the same seating issues, Have a half cage being made now that allows the seat to slide AND reclice back as per normal. This has been a major drama but we may be making headway....have a meetign on monday to confirm the plan.

Problem is all the race seats shoulder"wings" we have tried (and the mom's I bought) hit the edge of the door/frame preventing any more rearward movement....

I am looking for seats without wings or will have my Momo T frame shoulders cut off and re upholstered.....unless any one shorter than 6'0" wants a matching pair in red for cheap....?

Unfortunately MX-5s are just very fussy with fitting in decent seats, but from memory Flyin' Miata's website has a list of seats and a guide to ideal seat measurements.

Yip and that guide does not allow for the seat shoulder to go beyond the area I mention....which leaves a gap behind the seat and the parcel tray...

The Momo T club is listed (from memory) as being suitable...but has same issue.

I think if your shorter than 6'0" it isn't an issue...

Ok after further investigation(opening up the wee black box attatched to my ecu) I have found it is indeed an HKS piggback unit, f-con X52 which doesn't really help matters at all :) seeing as there is no information readily available on them.
