Got 20 metres up the road before my headlights went fucking nuts.
Had to pull the battery to stop them flipping the fuck out - Quick google revealed my headlight motor relay was shot.
Went round a bunch of places before remembering I had a wreck sitting in the drive, so I pulled the relay outta that, stuck it in (the relay), and we're away laughing.
Unfortunately I buggered my headlight hazard switch in the process - See relevant WTB ad.

Thanks Toolbox. I'm pretty happy with how it looks now.Toolbox wrote:Side skirts look good (so does the rest of the car) I hope the templates I sent you were some use. I like it, the car looks like it in show room condition.
I've been meaning to update that thread with instructions/photos I took while installing them. The templates were very helpful, although I actually had to move the ones for the front rails slightly from where they said it should go after some trial and error- not sure if it's cause my car is bent or I'm just bad at aligning things. Positioning things on curves is quite tricky!

I got sick of my dash being a cock to clean (because vspec obviously), so
this happened.

Bonus round: Confounded bloody cluster cover broke after I took it out.
... When I picked it up off the ground. Really gently. With rags in each
hand.

I've only had a couple of quick drives so far, but first impressions are pretty good. I got it as I wanted a taller shifter so I wasn't hitting the centre console with my elbow every time I shift but didn't want to have a massive throw.evel wrote:are those short shifters as awesome as everyone makes them out to be? I considering getting one as well.
With this short knob the throw is ridiculously short and tight and as cliched a description as it is, it does feel a bit like a bolt-action rifle's action. The downside is it requires quite a lot of force to get it into reverse (due to the shorter lever and raised pivot) - sometimes surprisingly so.
With this shift knob though (or with the extension) it's a pretty nice combo. The shifter is much closer to your hand- pretty much straight to the left of the steering wheel while the throw at that height feels about the same as stock (possibly a bit more still).
I think some of the reviews are a bit over the top; it won't turn your car into a magical gear-shifting unicorn, but it does what a short shifter is supposed to do and shortens the throw and it's all nicely made and a very complete kit (with replacement mazda boots, high grade bolts, delrin bushings, gasket etc all included)

In terms of gear shifting unicorn, engine mounts seemed to do the trick. They went in late last week. Amazing. But a fair bit of NVH to beat out of them.
Regarding reverse: Yours is the 6 speed - same as mine, with the hard to the right, and then rearward action, correct? I sometimes find that's hard enough to do without shortening the shifter... could be something else though.. clutch springs to mind..?

Yeah it's just reverse - it was harder to get it into reverse than the other gears already, the short shifter just amplified it by removing some of the leverage I think.evel wrote:Could possibly be the reverse lockout mechanism just being a bit worn so its takes abit more to unlock it.
If it was the clutch it would be hard to go into any gear

From the ashes... What did you do to your roadster today?
Great look, pop into Whitcouls, and their Art Supplies, grab a fine arts
micro brush, a very fine soft, short haired brush, it will fix those
"missed" bits easy as.
Cheers and have a great 2015.

It's finally complete again, not without thanks to plseme.
Driving round without a cluster cover sucks. All you can see is the
reflection of the cluster's guts.

Made a plaster mould of the right-hand tail light...heated up a piece of acrylic in the oven whilst sitting on the mould and viola! a new lense for my left hand tail light! Just needs a bit of trimming and then siliconing on to the unit.
