Faced with a long racecar rebuild, picked up a LF guard from Brownie and Darcy at Mazline in ChCh (highly recommended nutters, oops...I meant enthusiasts), enroute from Hamilton to Arrowtown in my newly acquired NC.
Stopped off in ChCh to have the lads at Magoo mufflers replicate a Goodwin Racing single exit rear muffler! Perhaps an AEM intake would set it off? Maybe some RX8 sways? Sorry Brownie, I did hear what you told me, but my memory ain't what it used to be!!!

Great news that you are OK Ian.... Thats the important factor.
On a lighter note I received my replacement Garnish from Brownie at MAZLINE today. Its a minter.(THANKS BROWNIE/MAZLINE)
Painted the ends blue already with 2 coats and will paint the white stripes on tomorrow. Should be finished in time to fit on saturday ready for Show and Shine on Sunday.... Ive got my $5 ready.

Thanks to all for the messages of support...and yes, a full cage has some benefits, and my rebuild will include one!Zadkiel wrote:Ouch! What kind of roll bar did it have? Was it just a single roll? Good to hear you are ok!
The existing homologated 'half cage' is welded in place with 6 mounting points and did not move, despite the car going over at least twice and was used to crane the car onto the tow truck and subsequently onto my trailer.
The car will be ready for next seasons long distance series as the chassis appears to be fine (at this time).
Cheers
Ian

I'm not doubting the strength of the cage.
Just, wondering why you're alowd to run only a half cage,
Without any thing going forward.
At the Hampton 12. Hour, we were pitted with a 2k cup car.
No cage what so ever, he got away with it because it wasn't a
proper sanctioned race or something.
Which I guess is.. some how ok.
But running against cars that can easily do 250 kays and Are fully caged.
I just think its a bit silly.

"Watch for Aluminium Wheel Nuts"
Occasionally LVVTA has it reported by LVV Certifiers that
vehicle owners are turning up for LVV certification with
aftermarket wheels fitted, which are attached with aluminium
wheel nuts. LVVTA emphasises that due to an inherent
lack of tensile strength in commonly-available aluminium
compared to high tensile steel, aluminium wheel nuts must
never be used.

Perhaps this:There was an LVVTA PDF file I read a couple months ago which confirmed they are no longer road legal.

It's an odd one I think because there's zero provision for or mention of it in either the VIRM or LVVTA certification thresholds.
It's also somewhat silly because it immediately disallows alloys such as duralumin which I believe have greater tensile strength than your average steel wheel nuts. At least having some provision for them to be of reputable manufature would be nice.
