another wsy is to place thread into a drill index and drop back 3 drill sizes from there.

You're a champion. Ideally I'm trying to avoid buying a set. Once the car is running I'll have little need.

I estimated about 3 years worth of oil that leaked from the rear of my old motor made it onto this box unfortunately. Time to clean it up.

Have you tried a dedicated degreaser? It might do a better job of shifting the oil than a brake cleaning solvent.

Gearbox is painted. Also got onto the retainer cups for my engine mounts. Only 3 things left to go now before motor goes back in. Vacuum and heater hoses, remove all parts from engine and install appropriate gaskets, fit clutch master cylinder. Can't freaken wait.

So a speeding fine on sat. AND today it begins the start of parts gathering. Now I need to sort some inter cooler piping and larger injectors oh and a megasquirt.

So MAD boost

From my reading, it seems like a T4 is very commonly used in mx5's to great success, they seem to be an almost ideal size for most peoples needs. From the advice I have been given (by those who know far more than I), megasquirt are ok but can sometimes be unreliable and if you have the spare pennies, a G4 ecu is a superior option (that being said I am personally going the megasquirt route for the meantime) To be honest, lag is only really an issue when you have a big ass turbo (and you don't really need crazy horsepower to have fun (I know some will disagree with me, lol)) but if you really wanted to go nuts, you could look at a sequential turbocharging system which basically runs a small and large turbo. However, if you did something like that then I would expect it would be a lot more stressful on your engine and you would maybe have to look at forged internals (I am just speculating here or course I am not a mechanic and others here know far more about these sort of things)

Sorry to hear of the ticket, considering its Easter weekend the cops up here have been going nuts with the 4km speed tolerance (I am not really convinced that this has anything more than a financial benefit for the governments consolidated fund as I feel that better quality roads and increased driver training would have a much larger effect on reducing the road toll ... but hey, what would I know

)

Good luck on the turbo project and I would love to see progress pics when you get underway as I enjoy seeing what others are doing and how they are doing it as well as what pitfalls they come across and how they overcome them (Its like automotive porn to me)

Put on a 2" ebay shift extender - think i've finally found the height/amount of throw with I like with the short shifter:

(washer on top is temporary to keep the shift boot in place but it's kinda growing on me?)

Just bought a Zoom Fuel cap from Japan a hair under $200nzd delivered. Is better than the OBX one I was thinking about but that was going to be slightly over $200 delivered. Will post pics when it arrives.

Good progress yesterday with a visit from my mate , roof bracketing all sorted (so the cage is now ready for paint) , new turbo core installed, and some of the finer points of the turbo and heater coolant lines completed..

So Cleaned my car then installed the ZOOM lid surprisingly it is a 2 person job.

Frontal shot Shows off my flares, mega cheap lip and awkwardly shows my side indicators yes they are deceptacon logos.

rear shot with visible ebay fart cannon(it was cheap and works and somehow passes wof due to it "wakes the dead" tier loud)

AND the Zoom lid. Needed a second person to get the bowl in place as needing to have the latch pulled. Also from holding the old lid it does not seem heavier.

This may well be the last bit if welding on the body for a while..

Fitted and trimmed carpet after giving it a good wash, should save scratching new paint on the cage.

Then pulled the rear loom out and other junk ready to rub back the boot area for a coat of black..(too cheap to do it body colour because racecar)

Need to buy a passenger seat now I know they fit/work. Seat bottom is about 0.5-1cm above the carpet - much lower than my foamectomy-ed factory seat and hopefully will give me enough helmet / cage clearance.

Pretty sure I can get a WOF like this too as the seat slides (on the original rails) and meets the following:

The seat is either an unmodified OE seat from another vehicle, or of a known and
reputable aftermarket brand; and
 the seat is unmodified, and fitted to unmodified OE seat anchorages, and
 the seatbelt anchorage or operation is not affected; and
 the seat components (including brackets, runners and rails) are compatible with
each other, ie they are either OE components from a production vehicle or of a
known and reputable aftermarket brand, and are not fitted together by welding,
and
 the relationship between seat, seat occupant, and location of the seatbelt
anchorages is not affected.

The only slightly sneaky bit is I've swapped out the NB seat receiver stalk for Mazda Demio back seat one (which happens to be the same model - 'Autofriend A1490') but has a flexible/webbing stalk so I can get the belts through the side harness holes so the lap belt will sit correctly on the pelvis low down (as opposed to stomach height which is what happens if you just run it across the top of the seat sides). Pretty sure this is still WOFable, and more importantly am 100% sure it's as safe if not safer than the factory seat.
