I notice there is not much new today to read...... I cleaned my motor with the simple green and tyre foam technique so here are the befor and after shotsfor you guys to look at.
I have delete the original pics of motor condition. Only have the shots of post simple green and then post tyre foamer
The pictures are inverted in order. The tyre foam shots are shown first i think.

Looks much better to me, the sheen makes it look almost brand new

I was wondering if it baked as you drive? would the engine heat cause any odd smells?

No funny smells as it all got warm. Will give it a bit of a wipe tomorrow and see how the finish is affected. There is still some visable dirty areas but will sort those out and reassess finish. It is a pretty good easy transformation. $10 for simple green and only used about 10% o the bottle. Armourall Tyre foam was $10 on special at Repco today and used about half a can. All in all a cheap easy job. I have an alkaline cleaner i use in my work which appears to do a better finish than the simple green. It moves oil deposits more efficiently and its company sponsored.

I use turps with a brush as the first line of attack & then go over it again with Koala Kare degreaser from Supercheap...when its on special you can get 4l for aound $30.00...this rinses off easily with water.

I usually use kerosene and brush but thought i would give this a try. I had removed oil deposits but was trying to remove the crusty build up on the alloy parts hoping that they would look like new again. It seems to be a combination of old oil and dust combined. No chemicals seem to lift it quickly. Elbow grease has proved the best method. Always keen to do a difficult task the easiest way possible though.

Spraying thinners with a splash of detergent in it is good, with a resin brush to work it into the nooks and crannies, then a waterblast. Keep the thinners away from rubber though. Then I spray with tyre treatment from SC to shine everything up.
