Anyone got a VR Limited combination A out there?

Post by Bmv6197 » Mon Dec 03, 2012 8:26 am

Hi there folks,

I'm new to this forum but have been an MX5 fan for many years. I'm a Kiwi living in Europe (not exactly a unique story), and have owned (and hugely enjoyed) a 1995 BRG Mk1 MX5 for the past 6 years. It's a summer car only so has been spared the salty roads of winter...

At some stage I'll likely move home, and I'm keen to get another 5 in NZ. It will be handy to have a car when I'm back visiting anyway so I thought I'd start the search now. I'm after a very specific JDM model - the 1996 VR Limited. And to make it even tougher, I really want the Merlot coloured version with cream leather (called the Combination A) not the green Combination B (which there have been a couple of on TradeMe lately).

So, long story but does anyone know of such a car (or have such a car) for sale? I have good old fashioned cash waiting provided it's a very tidy example! Were there even any imported to NZ? I've seen a few in the UK but they've usually seen a few salty roads and are looking fairly tired. If I can't find one in NZ then I guess importing (from Japan or the UK) is my only other option, but that's a bit more hassle than I was hoping for!

Cheers and thanks in advance for any search advice!

Brad.

Might have luck with Zadkiel. I think his is a 96. I almost bought it but he needed it for a tiny bit longer and I needed one there and then. Quite tidy, 1 or 2 minor things wrong (Chip in paint, leaky shock) but its got a tan interior and merlot outside, M spec...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Brad but you wont be able to import a 96 model as our new registration rules wont allow anything that old to be imported for road use.
Good luck with your search.

He may be able to. There are exemptions that you could import it under

Thanks for all the replies folks - I wasn't aware of the new import laws. Bummer! From what i've read now it sounds like I could import it to the UK then after a year of ownership here could bring it to NZ as a personal import when I move, although that means I'll be spending more on shipping than on the car itself! And prices in Japan (on Goo-net cars) seem pretty high right now too...

I'll keep looking for cars already in the UK then, as well as see if anyone in NZ pops out of the woodwork !

Cheers guys,

Brad.
