I used 'corriflute' for mine. Same stuff that estate agents use for their 'for sale' signs. In fact, that's what mine was made from :) Had it on there for four years now. The bonus is that it weighs about 10 grams!

Furai, Punkoutnz, you guys should have come play with us out on the track, way way more fun than the skid pan, especially if you get in a bunch of cars and have a bit of a dog fight, not that your allowed to race on the track days of course.

There was four of us MX5's on the track in the same group, always room for a couple more. You don't have to worry about your pride and joy getting biffed, you are the master of your own destiny, and as long as you aren't doing something dumb, there is very little risk. Most of the other guys on the track don't want to wreck their cars either, so no one really gets close to each other, and you soon learn to spot the loose units out there and know who to stay away from, as they are going to come a cropper at some stage.

Ive been out there nearly every weekend for the past month, Gymkhana this weekend to.

Im still a pretty useless driver and wanna get better at low speed control first but I do want to go out on the track, especially in the rain.

I need a rollbar, overalls and race shoes first though. Doesnt help that i dont wanna drill holes in my car.....

Yeah I've done some track days in other cars and am dead set keen to have a go in the MX5 but I don't want to do it with the engine I have cos it's really on it's last legs and has no cooling upgrades with the turbo so imagine it'll get really hot really quickly!
Did see you guys out there, looked like you were having a ball!

Yep it will especially at Puke as i found out! at 10psi boost on a standard cooled high km engine it self destructed fairly quickly! :(

Hence why phase two is do all the upgrades to handle the extra stress.

Sweet. I'll likely join you in a couple of months time after I finish some work on my car. Check on the first two, probably have to get some shoes.

On a completely unrelated topic, if installing a bucket seat do I need to get it certified?

No need for cert on bucket seat as long as its of a reputable manufacturer and it bolts up to the OE mounting point in the car and uses either OEM or reputable manufacturer rails. And also provided it doesn't hinder use of the OE seat belt.

Excellent. I remember the seat clippy thing being attached to the chair. I guess I'll pull the chair out this weekend and have a better look at what I'm getting myself into

If for some reason your seatbelt is attached to your seat, then you may run into trouble from what I've heard.

From memory, specifically the issue is the seat must not interfere or alter the relationship between driver, seatbelt, steering wheel etc.

Should only be an issue for NA8 cars, but worth a check if you have the mounting point on the transmission tunnels as in the NA6.

I have done plenty of track days in the past at puke and taupo running 15 to 18 psi boost the cooling system is still standard never had a problem with water temp .
most cooling problems on turbo cars are caused by bad tuning i.e to lean
