Hardtops need a roll over bar as well, they run the same rules as going on the track as far as roll over protection, don't think you need a helmet but, well I never used one for the skid pan, but they got a bit worried when some guy in an old RWD Starlet put it on it's roof.
Still not sure how he did that, as you have buggar all grip on the skid pan.

Its the Advance Gymkhana day details:

Registration is from 830 till 915 I think, we usually start 930
TIME: 10.00am till 2.00pm
Skid pan events have proved very popular & you can pay on the day for this event.
RULES FOR OPEN CARS
All open cars (i.e. soft top convertibles) must have roll protection, either factory, eg Boxter, S2000, Z3, Z4, 350z, 370z & Elise etc. or suitable aftermarket roll protection if not factory fitted.
Helmets are compulsory and are available to hire at Hampton Downs at $20 each.
Gates open at 8am - please be registered by 9.30am.
Both times I have a been just a Hardtop has been fine. As with other MX5s there.

I certainly had a great time, but didn't manage to get any pictures unfortunately. Did manage to catch a couple of videos of the red E30 as well as the black facelift S14 I was hanging out with. Definitely keen to get back out there, was a great first time.
Not to mention when we got a bit of drizzle on the skid pan...
Amen to that! Was pretty tricky they kept rearranging the gaps between cones, and with cones going up and going down, just remembering the layout was pretty deceptive at times!Mad Kiwi wrote:(and remembering the cone layout!)

So who was running this one, was it Hampton itself or one of the other places that run events down there.
Just surprised about the helmet thing, I have done about 6 or 7 skid pan events down there, and never had to have a helmet. In fact in a couple of them, have had my 6yr old daughter in the passenger seat, or a car full of people in the STi, even ran one with my 3 yr old strapped in with someone else in the passenger seat.
I couldn't make it down, big night out last night, so wasn't feeling the flashest this morning.

I have 2.5Gb worth of video so I will get that up over the next few days.
Yeah the cone layout was abit of a pain but still good fun! Makes it a bit more challenging.
Everyone is always keen to help out others and its good to see someone elses technique!
Donovan Advance run them, I guess its just the way they want run them I guess?

I think I need to take a ride in your passenger seat next time. I've no idea how your times were, but you were giving it tits out there and really doing a great job.Yeah the cone layout was abit of a pain but still good fun! Makes it a bit more challenging.

One thing I saw on some other videos I've seen around the world is marking cone base positions with chalk for ease of replacing them when they fall down. Something to keep in mind for anyone planning to organise similar events in future maybe

I should probably be a bit nicer to baby, I was sitting around 7,000RPM trying to get the viscous to kick out.
I was throwing it around a little but onnly came third. Need to beat Christo in the white MR2!
I did a 32.87 was my best what about you?
Oh and I took a few people for rides so next time just ask

I've got plenty to improve on, as I think my best was something like a 38.42, though I only got two good runs I think, with my third run ending up spinning out backwards in the wet and a couple of DNDCs due to my cone confusion
Really looking forward to the next event like this though. Hopefully getting a set of RE001s fitted this weekend along with a long-overdue wheel alignment. Hasn't been done since I bought the car in February last year and adjustable suspension installed in February this year

Yeah I need to improve on my handbrake turns, Doesnt really help that my viscous is crapping itself.
Next one should fun! Hopefully people arent laying down rubber on the skidpan the day before, might make it a bit easier!
Yeah I have a list of things I want to do to, I hade mismatched wheel/tire combo on the day and put my directionals round the wrong way
