Hey all, new member here, brought a mx5 on Monday thanks to PunkOutNZ will be posting pictures of the car shortly :)

Just a quick couple of questions....

It's a 1990 NA MX5 so quite a basic model, has anybody installed power windows in a non powered window car before?

Also installing a power boot release?

I think that's it... :) thanks!

Welcome! Sounds like James has brought you into the wonderful world of MX-5s!

I haven't, but I've wanted to do the reverse so I'd be happy to take your manual window gear off your hands if/when you do the change.

I'd happily offer my electric window parts in a direct exchange, but they're not in the best condition. You'd probably want a new window switch at least.

haha yes - when I met James I was looking for a Nissan Silvia... Then he showed me his MX5 and well yeah I was sold.. haha

Hmmm that could work! I need to do a bit more research on the parts I need and etc.. but I bought an Actuator for a powered boot release off of trademe yesterday. :)

Just gotta clean the car up to a nice standard so I will be happy =]

Having owned both... I'd take the NA MX-5 any day, though I still love S13s to bits. I'm sure James'll drag you along (or he'll ride shotgun with you... or Zac) to the next meet, will be good to meet you, so welcome again :)

Here's a guide for power windows to manual, so it can't be too much different to the reverse of that. Miata.net's garage section has a fair amount of useful bits and pieces you might not find in a workshop manual.

Awesome! Thanks for that guide!

Yeah, I was looking for a s14 PFL but to find one for the price I paid for the Mx (3,200) I would have gotten a completely thrashed s14 that had half the interior missing and no air filter (oh, that one was actually 4,000)

But as a first manual car (still learning..) it is awesome! I need pics for work :)

Great to see another join the community!

I think Born Disturbed was looking for a manual window swap?

See MX5's sell themselves :D. Speaking of meets we need to organise another one soon before the weather starts getting colder (and I start stripping my car for this year's winter rebuild).

Bought yourself a turbo yet, Chris? :P

But no, no turbo yet... need to really decide what I want out of the car...

Welcome to the forum Chris.

Just a note on the remote boot release, the boot is the only secure place in the car, so if you are putting a release inside the cockpit you have lost that security (unless you have a hard-top).

Did just have a thought Chris. If you wire up the release to only have power when the ignition is on, then you still need the key to activate it.

I was thinking that, I'm not too fussed as it is a sunday car, not my daily driver, however I think James has a good idea! Do it so that I turn the key to accesories which shouldn't be too hard..

For the boot release, I had one wired up with my alarm, so still no internal button in the car, just on the alarm remote, seems to work ok, and still secure.
