Ive been talking to Manawatu Motorsport about the MX5 race series they want to get up and running.

The regs and rules will be up shortly with other relevant updates.
It seems like a good low cost series and hopefully will fly.

I'm interested in this, but yeah hope this doesn't drive MX5's the way E30's have gone. I remember a few years ago E30 BMW's being cheap and plentiful, now expensive (to me anyway..)

Just had a read through the rules, seems very restrictive. I would've thought it'd be a good idea to run something similar to the BMW series. The 1.6 cars, and an open class to be run separately. Let those with turbos run their cars as they wish?

isee they are going with a control wheel in the future....whats the point in letting everyone set up thier cars only to restrict wheel choice..

some 15x7 6UL wheels would be my choice

I still have the rules and regs I compiled about 7 - 8 years ago. Maybe if there is enough of us keen we could resurrect them again... :D

The regs are in a draft form so will be some tweaking here and there.
They need to be restrictive so those with a big chequebook dont have a unfair advantage plus it keeps it simple.

Mine were tweaked from SCCA in America and the Queensland MX5 club...
I'm all for some modifications that doesn't cost the earth...
What about posting up what you have for general discussion?

the cheque book racers will spend money on blueprinting etc....
having different wheels aint gonna make a lot of difference. let the cars run a wider track and racers can decide how much offset they want to use within that maximum Track.

Interesting they are running with the RS Cup guys at Manfield. The RS Cup has a lap time of 1 min 32 secs or slower so any car built to those specs should blitz that time. I suppose it looks better to be at the head of one group than the tail of another.

I'm not going to enter the series in my "5" as its road going (and staying that way) and the penalties for out of spec (rollcage differences, tyre size, soon to have 1800 brakes) will make it meaningless. I'll just enter the RS Cup itself and get the points on offer for that division instead where my car will be far more competitive.
cheers,

Mark
