gearbox problems

Post by mr_pool_pool2000 » Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:39 pm

i have recently noticed that when i change down to 3rd form 4th at high rpm my gearbox crunches. (doble clutching solves this)

i have recently changed the oil to try fix the problem to no resolve.
my clutch is fairly worn could this have something to do with this?

o its an 1800 nb with the bp motor and 6 speed transmission

any help would be greatly appreciated will be doing clutch soon and if i need to change any parts on the trans that would be the best time to do so

Sounds to me like a synchro is worn on your third gear mate. I don't know anything about the mx5 box specifically as far as cost goes for doing that so hopefully someone else here might.
Cool sunroof bro...

I've got a similar problem going from 1-2 which is solved by double clutching or shifting slowly.

clutch might be the problem

Post by mr_pool_pool2000 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 5:55 pm

ok after recieving an e mail that it might be the clutch slave cylinder i checked it and sure enough it is leaking into the boot and my clutch fluid is black az.

i found this really good site with all the faq on how to change it and how to bleed it including diagrams!!! (for less knowledgeable people like me)

http://www.miata.net/garage/slavecyl.html

now just need to source me one hopfully this will fix the problem

I've got the same problem too... but this is only on a cold start, it is fine after a brief drive.
