just look for something like this under the bonnet http://fototime.com/F7AB55BA5C51EE9/standard.jpg . I know my NZ-spec '96 didn't have it , but it seems to have been at least optional elsewhere since '91 .

cheers

Mine is an NZ new 1997 1800cc and doesn't have ABS brakes...You may possibly need to look at an import model (which will likely also give an airbag which my car also doesn't have)

Personally, it's not really a big deal for me- The brakes are decent, the car is well balanced.....it takes a lot to lock up a wheel in an MX5

Would have to be a hi spec NA Roadster to have ABS,And yes it would normally come with airbag as well.Keep in mind this technology is getting older ,so if any faults appear will not be cheap to fix.
Airbag on NA's do give fault with the module ($1500 to fix with a new module).ABS seems to be fairly reliable at this stage.
If you really need ABS ,buy a NB,1600cc NBs can have ABS and are starting to come down in price and you get dual Airbag.

I have seen late NA 1600cc with ABS/AIRBAG,Fairly rare to see.

My late 93 NZ new 1.8 does not have ABS , and it was not an option at this time, though air con was!
93 1.8,intake/ex mods,Megasqirt PNP,torsen ,konis,GC coilovers,Nitto-01,cage,sparco seat,Schroth harness.

the mazda mx5 is a drivers car not a drivers aids car
the brakes on any mx5 with or without abs are more than up to the job
abs would have been a highly used option/standard in the usa but you would be hard pressed to find one in the rest of the world (japan, AUS, NZ, UK etc)

sorry i think i may have been reading miata turbo too much lately

My import 97 1800 has ABS and drivers side airbag.
It's also for sale because I'm trying to buy something a little more expensive... gutted too, cos she's a fun wee ship.
