Nardi Gear Knob

The wooden Nardi Torino gear knob on my 99 V Spec is loose but there seems to be no visible method, either in the wood or bottom metal band, of tightening it onto the shaft. I suspect there may be a grub screw behind the logo plate but, before attempting (very carefully) to prise this off, I would be grateful if someone could confirm that my premise is correct.

Stupid question perhaps but have you tried turning it? Every car I've had (including MX5s) the gearknob just screws onto the end of the shaft. apologies if I'm misunderstanding the question.

Not stupid, that's what I tried initially when I wanted to remove the knob and is the reason it now turns relatively freely but not on a thread!

You might need to glue the metal insert to the wood

Don't quite follow, there is no metal insert, just a metal cap on the bottom of the knob that seems immovable and the logo label about half way down the knob.
