Another slashed roof!

Post by natasha » Wed May 26, 2010 9:35 pm

My car roof got slashed about a month ago. Had a lovely surprise walking up to my car after lectures at uni. Nothing missing, nothing to go missing in the first place as I dont leave ANYTHING in there. Decided to go see the security guys and see if they caught anything on camera but of course I had parked behind a tree, probably why the lovely person done it. Got home and put the hard top on to forget about things till after my exams. Of course the weather has changed dramatically over the past week and I had the wonderful experience of gaining a wet butt after diving into my car from the torrential downpour and finding puddles in my footwells. I have read some of the other threads on here with people who have been in the same situation and Al's upholstery seems to be the place to go for a new soft top. Was just wondering if people could give me an idea on pricing as being a poor student doesnt help matters at the moment. And Im also interested if people have any ideas on how to stop my hard top leaking? Cause its a real handy roof to have. Its only leaking from the side windows seems like the seals just dont meet the window properly?? Thanks :) Oh and forgot to say, my insurance wont cover it. They said if it had been done by me "accidentally" then it would be covered, but because some nasty piece of work done it then its not .. make sense?? No didn't think so either.

Sorry to hear that, Natasha.
I've done my roof replaced last year. I bought one on trade me and done the work by myself. A replacement roof itself was about $700 mark. If yiu ask shop to do it will be this plus labour.

Depends on the type of replacement roof.

Sometimes there will be good condition second had roof on sale. If it include a frame, that will be very easy swap.
Mazline or Ross at MX5Mart could have something for you.

Al's Upholstery was the guy to go and see as his work was top quality and he supported the club with prizes etc.
Unfortunately he has now closed up shop and is semi retired...

Hi Natasha

There's one for sale in the Forum Classifieds.
$400 on the frame, which is a good price if it's in good condition.
