newbie worries

Post by zoomin » Mon Apr 19, 2010 9:02 pm

hi there, am needing some reassurances that my new baby is not a lemon , 06 soft top - owned 5 days only & first rain leaked like a sieve and totally wet driver footwell and boot . has been in garage getting new upgraded drains. I bough this as my commuter rainhail or shine - was this a mistake for winter or should it be able to cope with winter weather?? worried now? my understanding was mx5 has best sealing soft tops?never even crossed my mind it might leak!
Otherwise.. love it

Back drains will be blocked no doubt,Won't need upgrading, just clearing,
Those are ones behind the seatbelt area ,Plenty of info around to sort them.
Check the How To's on this site ,i'm sure someone must have done them as well

the garage section on miata.net will have a write up on how to clean out blocked drains if you ever need to do it for your self

the car was probably parked outside or under trees etc before you brought it and the drains have never been cleaned (4 years of road grime and dirt)

not a lemon just needs abit of lovin

The NC's had an issue with the weather sealing strips on the soft tops. im pretty sure there was even a TSB(technical service bullitin) about replacing them under warranty because they leaked... hope thats not the case with yours.

heres some useful links.

thanks for that - I phoned the dealer as soon at it leaked and they had me take the car to the closet dealer and as far as I can tell they put in the upgraded drains free and dried out the carpets. I also had the am aerial clap out at the same time(also evidently a fault with the 06 NC) so they replaced that under warranty as well. does anyone know if they need to go behind the dash to replace the aerial? as now i have a really annoying rattle coming from the dash, which wasn't there pre-leak incident.
