1.8 na Cold start?

1.8 na Cold start?

Hi guys ive just got a 1.8 Bp inlet manifold off a na mx5. on the manifold itself it doesnt seem to have a coldstart at all, i was looking at a 1.6 manifold which is very simular and they run theres in a obvios spot but the 1.8 dosnt seem to run one? any help would be greatfull.

The MX5 BP doesn't have a "cold start" however it does have an idle speed controller which is mounted under the throttle body.

how does it work when you swap a 1.6-1.8? as far as i know you can, as long as you keep the 1.6 t/b. what happens with the isc then while using the original ecu
probably could search this myself just want to see what you guys think

If youre doing a 1.6 - 1.8 swap, dont worry about the idle control.

anyone make coolant relocation kits here? need a spacer for the housing for the back of the motor

i see the way youve run yours the way i want to do mine is rotate that housing 180 degrees and run it under the intake manifold instead of over the hot exhaust

The same principles apply, you just rotate the thermostat housing. The pipe routing may be a little more fiddly as you have the oil filter and alternator etc under there but I know a lot of the guys in the states have done it that way.

I was thinking of getting a few of the spacer plates made but haven't had a chance to do anything about it yet.

oh yip sweet as. speaking of oil cooler. as im using a stock GTX/GTR one where do i route those 2 pipes?

no oil cooler on mx5. should be able to use the gtx one though

The MX5 has a sandwich chamber between the oil filter and the block which carries cooling water. On the BP this is fed from small hoses off the thermostat housing, via the idle speed controller, and then returns to the back of the block. If you want to run an external cooler you can either fit a sandwich plate behind the filter (difficult as there is not much room, or just fit a take off plate and remotely mount the filter on the firewall or inner guard.

yes i know that but what about the other pipe off it? on the fwd bp's they run to the heater core

Not quite sure what you mean by the "other pipe". There are 2 pipes into the cooler block, one comes from the throttle body and the other returns to a spiggot on the back of the head.

ohh ok they dont run to the throttle body on the GTX/GTR coolers. they run to the heater core and to the back of the head as seen on this pic
