soft top difficult to fasten when putting up

Post by colsan » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:46 am

With the warm weather arriving we had the roof down for a day or two.
When i put it back up it was VERY difficult to pull it far enough forward
so i could get the locking clamps to reach.
The movement in all the joints in the roof supports seem fine with no stiffness.
Any ideas why its suddenly so hard to close it the final couple of inches?
Its not been this tight before.

Try leaving it in the sun to warm up for a few minutes i am sure the vinyl shrinks when cold-ours does the same especially now its getting past its use-by date!

If it has a plastic window, are you un zipping this first before trying the last couple of inches?

You always should...

Unless your zip is a bit fragile... I just shove a rolled-up wooly hat in as it goes down to make sure it doesn't crease.

My plastic window zip has been broken for years, I roll a beach towel up in it when I fold it down - works for me...

Don't forget that there is an adjustment in the clips themselves (NA model anyway) that allows you a bit more reach on the piece that locks on. You may have to remove a plastic cover to see what I mean...good luck.
