The 1996 Merlot I am in the process of getting on the road looks like it will need a new soft top sometime soon (tan, not black). Can anyone let me know where are the best places to go to get this done (within Auckland/Hamilton areas) and the approximate cost?
Also, are the soft tops for the NA series able to have glass fitted instead of the usual plastic? How about heated windows? What are the different options available? All advice would be most welcome.
Cheers.

Dr Don. Don Mclean at Autoway Services in Frankton, Hamilton replaces hoods. He is a club member and currently owns at least 4 MX5s. There aint much he doesn't know about them. He owns 2 turboed cars - one has 300bhp at the wheels, and also has a 13B rotary powered one. Talking to Don and seeing these cars are worth the trip down by itself

Replacement tan soft top
I think that would be a reasonable price. I understood that the tan tops cost more than the black! I had a black EZ-On fitted 2 years ago here in Wellington, chose the glass over the vinyl rear window, top/installation came to 1,395 (incl GST) Also purchased from Ross at MX5 mart a Hood/Window cover, this basically protects the glass from being rubbed by the hood and covers the hood lining that would be exposed when the top is down, the cover has a velcro strip to keep it all securely in place. IMO well worth the $125 + GST. I have used this cover for my new top from day one, my car is used daily and the top is down a lot more than it is up, I cannot detect any fading on the parts of the lining that this cover protects
