Tow hitch / Tie Down removal.

Post by Bazza » Thu Dec 07, 2006 8:51 am

Having a spare half hour the other day I decided to remove the Tie Down or Tow Hitch brackets (depends on which story you prefer) on the front and rear of my NA. Wasn't a big deal and even a suggested problem around the air/con didn't eventuate.

Just as a matter of interest, the four brackets plus bolts weighed in at about 4 kilograms. Strange that they would not be removed after shipping on a car that has a lightweight bonnet to save weight. Certainly looks better IMHO.

They certainly looked strong enough to support towing the car, however I've made the decision that mine isn't going to break down.

I took mine out on Saturday as well. I keep going outside and staring lovingly at the front intake and thinking how much cleaner the lines look now. Out of interest - did you put the mounting bolts back in the holes after you took the hooks off?

Good question........

I thought about this for a while and put the bolts back in at the rear, after I'd given them a good coat of CRC - I felt the open holes were an invitation to rust up. Everything seemed cleaner and drier at the front end so I left them out there, however I'm still thinking about that - may check again in a months time and see what's happening....?

Wonder what the brackets would be worth on trade me

I put two of the three of each front bracket back. There was one on each side which was quite hard to get back in, so I just left it. Haven't attempted to take the back tie-down bolts off yet - they don't bother me like the front ones did.
