When I first bought ny car I took it for a drive, in the rain, to Hamilton. An
initial observation was that the literature claiming that Mazda had done
everything they could to create a genuine sportscar was true. They had even
used all of thir resources to design and position a windscreen in such a way
that the rain just streamed off. Of course the truth was that the dealer had
used some of his $10 bottle of Rainex (bought from a Repco or equivalent).
It is certainly cheap enough to test whether or not it works. If it does, then
maybe you do not need faster wipers.
Hope this helps.

I thoroughly recommend Rain-X or its competitor, Prestone Clear-View,
available at Repco, gas stations, and similar for $10-$15 a bottle.
Its fantastic.
The film it puts on the windscreen makes water run off very easily...
It...
a) keeps the view clearer in very light rain, delaying your need to even turn
the wipers on
b) at speed, the rain just flies off, so you don't even need to turn the
wipers on, or can use a slower wiper speed setting than that amount of rain
previously called for.
c) seems to massively extend the useful life of a set of wiper blades. (my
last set has been on for five years? previously I replaced them every
18-months or so?)
Quite frankly, its a miracle product / bargain... and I'm not one to get
overly enthused about everything I buy.
One bottle is enough for at least 20 applications, and you only need to apply
it every six months or so... so it will last a long time, or treat all your
cars and a lot of your friends too...
The instructions say to coat the windscreen twice... this might seem like
just a way to sell more product... just do it, it does make a difference, and
its so cheap, who cares?
I've no personal experience, but I've heard many times that Fog-X, a product
from the same company to stop windscreen fogging, is not quite the
miracle-magic that Rain-X is. Most are disappointed...
Give it a try, you'll be glad you did...

I agree entirely with you Fletch, it is great stuff. Fog-X however just made a
smeary mess on the inside of my windscreen when I tried it, and it was very
hard to clean it up.

Well the speed on the wipers is slow, thats why people is
relying on the magic of Rain-X.
If you want to speed up the wipers you probably have to find
a electric motor higher rpm.

On mine, I find the intermittant and first constant speed to be good speeds,
but the "fast" speed doesnt seem to be enough faster than the other speed to
be a usefull change.
It appears about 120% faster when it really needs to be 150% or more.
This is why I was recomending Rain-X, you can "get away" with a lower speed
and still get a clear view.
If you do find a way to speed it up, it'll probably cost more than the $12-ish
that Rain-X (or Prestone Clear-View) costs, so why not give it a try.
