Gordon Keeble
My boss in London back in 1972 used to own one of these. From what I can
remember he said there were only 99 of them made, but he may have said
there were only 99 others, I can't be sure. It was a long time ago. He also
had a Lancia Fulvia at the same time. He used to drive his cars VERY hard
(scary being his passenger around London streets). Interestingly, he
managed to snap the crankshaft in half on his Gordon Keeble and with only 4
of the 8 cylinders doing anything after that the car was still driveable!
He did say it felt a bit down on power though and he wondered what was
wrong with it...

Gordon Keeble
There is a Gordon Keeble that lives in the Auckland area. It was for sale a
few years back for about $60,000. Mid Blue in colour with a fantastic black
leather interior.
I think that The Healey Workshop in Tauranga is restoring one at the moment.

That was an interesting exercise, I will have to make my next one a little
more difficult!
The Gordon Keeble was a lovely car, and quite a big one. There were, as far
as I know, two in New Zealand, the mid blue one and a maroon one which was
the original demonstrator. Possibly they are both still here.
They were a fantastic performer, being only about 1.25 tons in weight and
using the 5.4 litre Chevrolet Corvette Engine. They would do about 110 km/h
in FIRST! Top speed was around 145 MPH (233 Km/h), not bad for an early 60's
four seater car. The Marque badge was a tortoise, highly inappropriate!
There were exactly 100 built, as one of you told me, 99 production cars and
1 from the remaining spares.
They still sell in England at about $NZ 100,000
If you ever get the chance to see one, it is well worth the effort, they
don't build cars like that these days and we are the poorer for it.
If there is interest I will try to set one of these little challenges, say
weekly?
regards
Eric
