Woe and despondency has set in!

Post by Keith Cook » Wed Apr 30, 2003 11:23 am

My son's 1990 Mazda 626 GT which has been in the family for the laast 9 years (it was mine for 6) has cracked its head. We are told it is irreparable and their are no replacements in NZ. You can guess the cost that statement masks!! Any of you wizzkids out there got any bright ideas for alternatives or alternative sources? This is called harnessing the power of the internet.
Cheers. Still top-down weather in Invercargill!

Thanks for taking an interest. It is 2000cc 4 cyl. and, being the GT, is Japanese assembled. Apparantly it is an EFi engine my son tells me.

If there are no 2nd hand heads available, price a complete motor and sell what
you don't need. Or, the crack may be able to be stitched. contact Metallock in
Penrose Auckland.

Sounds like it could be the "FE3" twin cam 2 liter
motor... there should be lots of those lying around
in wreckers in auckland, try the trade and exchange
even. At a last resort you could try australian parts
import companies. "Most" cracks can be fixed it just
costs!!

2L twin cam, fuel injected. I used to have an imported MX6 with the same
engine - called the Mazda Capella as an import (So is the 626 & GT)

There should be lots of those heads or engines around - have a ring around -
try Mazspare in Auckland, Anymazspare in Hamilton or Mazline Parts world in
Christchurch. Ask for an MX5 Club discount.
