Style Bars and 4x4's..!!

Usually an insurance company can't decline a claim if the WOF failing item
didn't contribute to the accident. So, if you fall off the road because it's
raining and your tyres are bald, then bad luck. But if you rear end someone
and one of your tail lights is out, or you have a style bar, then these
didn't contribute to the crash and the claim will be paid. I don't know how
you'd go if you rear ended someone because you were admiring your evil
WOF-failing style bar in the rear view mirror and not watching where you're
going.

Those damned 4x4's are a nightmare... I think people drive them like they're
a car, because they have power steering and autoboxes, even your granny
could handle it. But with those high sidewall tyres and high centre of
gravity, they roll like whales and cross the centre line on every corner.
Scary. I feel exposed in the MX5, then every now and then I see someone in a
Lotus 7 with their arse just about on the ground they're so low...

I own and drive both. I drive the Suzuki Vitara (small, but still a 4x4) on
the roads like it needs to be driven - a damn sight slower than the MX5 (or
any other vehicle I have owned in a long time). It doesn't handle well, it
rolls a lot, it drinks lots of petrol, it isn't very fast. It is incredibly
easy, however, to drive each car in the manner its design deserves. The
problem is those people who own a 4x4 but perhaps wish they owned something
that handled well and try to drive it as though they did. I.e they need
more driver education, as well as a healthy dose of common sense.

I never cross the centre line in either car. You never know what may be
just around the corner.

Oh yes, the MX5 is a LOT easier to drive.
