Parts from USA (+ Site Searching)

Post by zorruno » Thu Apr 24, 2003 7:25 pm

I know Gary Morrison was trying to organise some coordinated shipping from
the USA - not sure whether he got any interest from others in it though.

most previous email messages mentioned 'states' not 'usa'
i.e. search for 'shipping to states' finds it @ number 1
(actually 'shipping to USA' finds it as number 16 with a fuzzy search)
The site search engine searches previous top down mags as well, but I'm a
bit behind in adding the last year's mags...

I'd certainly be interested ! ...but haven't heard a
thing about this before.

Would be a great service the club (or an individual,
like you, me, anyone) could offer and save everyone
some $$$ - looks like the myus.com service is US$35
setup, $132/yr, $20/yr web access ... a bit steep for
a one-off order.

I already belong, and had thought of this, but there were some issues that I
couldn't resolve:

On the negative side:
- The account holder will be liable for freight / handling - before being
paid in NZ (as you only know the cost when it ships)
- Who is liable for customs declarations / GST / import duty
- Particularly if something illegal was brought in!
- Who is going to go down to customs office for goods totalling over US$250
(unless someone has custom brokering experience and can fill out the forms
at home)
- Sellers may still not accept a NZ credit card - credit card companies in
NZ (such as ANZ Visa), won't list a US address as a secondary address NOTE:
Myus will buy things for you on their credit card, with appropriate extra
charges.

On the plus side:
- Upto 5 names associated with the one account.
- They provide itemised invoices / freight dockets.
- Their courier rates are equivalent to USPS Air Mail but faster
- They can consolidate smaller items into a single box

Prices are certainly cheaper in the US. Mazda front mudflaps are US$70 the
pair - in NZ you're looking NZ$250.

Regards,

Gary Morrison

This was a while back, and a mention in Top Down Mag drew zero interest.
What I had arranged was a relationship with Goodwin Racing of San Diego (http://www.good-w
in-racing.com/goodwinracing_001.htm) to offer everything they have to
people in NZ (including the agencies such as Racing Beat) and to bulk
ship on orders to save the shipping. Brian Goodwin was offering us a good
club discount (as he does for the San Diego club). I am still the
Australasian distributor for Team Voodoo products though... Gary On Thu,

bugger, I just bought a pricey ACT clutch too. BTW Autoclutch refused to give a club discount on "performance parts", but were otherwise topnotch. Oh well, next time !

that's annoying - I'll try and remember to ask Frans the sponsorship guy
look into it.
