Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

Hi all you happy Orkland 5ers,

Yesterday I did the run from Ork up the NW to Helensville. So far
so boring, not many spots to overtake, lots of oiks, plenty of [80],
too many radar opportunities.

But after Parakai and all the way to the top of the Kaipara, has to
be the best, biggest, swoopiest, gruntiest, bendiest, loneliest, uppy
downy yeeeehhhaaaaarrrrr road that I have driven in a very long
time. I thrashed my 5 all the way there, thrashed my body round
some beautiful forest for an hour's worth of superb orienteering,
then caned it back even faster.

With 4 new tyres (G3), 4 new shocks (aftermarket stock) and 4 new
springs (aftermarket stock - Tokyo boy racer had gasaxed the
previous!!!) I was gently pushing the nice new envelope on the
dewy roads on the way out and !licking it to within an inch of its life
on the way back.

Wooohoooo!

The (male) seatcover was remarkably composed throughout this
episode. Even the two-lane-change-in-one-flick when combating
the Newmarket Viaduct sightseers. Not once did he grind his heel
into the carpet... He has gained much respect from me although he
may refuse lifts in future...

Mark 8^)

PS Only one cafe racer bike out there... don't they know about it?
[Also one flying bidet with pillion, makes you wonder why they
bother.]

PPS Only two shimmies / lurches the whole way, both when I
foolishly prodded the brakes in the middle of some major fun, one a
wickedly tightening (tighter, tighter, tighter, are you squealing yet?)
bend. Like that last lefthander down Domain Drive, but looking
much faster on the way in and almost as slow on the exit.
Awesome recovery - glad I didn't do that in the Toyota Babymobile,
would have had to wait for the spectators to come and push us
upright again, while the family hung from their belts ;^)

PPPS Not one loss of traction or even a suggestion of a slide, even
on the dew in the shadows on the way out - unless you count the
handbrake turn on the gravel in the forest 8^)

You were lucky, SH 16 is a Police happy hunting ground.
It's our favourite bike road, but there are cops there more often than not.
It is a magic road though, especially since they repaired the worst bits.
Another is the Waipu to Mangawhai road and also the twin bridges road that
starts from the Dargaville - Whangarei road and goes to Kaikohe. When you
finish these, they have to surgically remove the grin.
