Hard Top

Hi MX5 People
I have recently purchased a 1990 mx5 and I am a very happy man. I was told by
a car sales person that you can not fit a hard top to an mx5 if it was not set
up in the factory during manufacture. My question is this true ???
Cheers ML

Not exactly sure, but I think your being told rubbish. You might need to get
the bolts/studs to fit on the outside sill to the rear and just behind where
the softtop sits, that the hardtop lugs locate, but I dont think it should be
a problem. Others on this list will have more knowledge I'm sure.

What a load of rubbish - shows how much sales people now abouy what they are
selling. All you need are the two studs that go in the chrome plates by the
boot. You can get them from Mazda Dealers - not very expensive at all.

Happy motoring.

Hi,
No it is not true. If you have the small bollards on each side below the rear
window line, you are half way there. There are two brackets you need that
resemble the soft top windscreen header brackets. They fit to the side behind
both seats. If you remove the plastic moulding on the inside below where the
seat belts run you will find some threaded holes in the body work. If you
examine the inside of the removed mouldings you will see an oval outline
etched into the plastic. This has to be neatly cut out. Once you have the side
brackets all this will make sense.
