Hi all, I have read with interest in the archives about upgrading 1.6 to 1.8
brake disc's. I have also read the Miata site on the same subject.Have those
who have done this change found it to be worthwhile? How many did the Rear
brakes as well?? Mazda lists a separate part number for the 1.8 proportioning
valve for brake balance, has anyone checked this out? Finally has anyone
changed to S.S.braided brake hoses for their ability not to expand like rubber
lines.
I'm more interested in getting rid of the rust look through my mags than
ultimate stopping power & have found out that cad plated gold passivated Std
disc's are available, so are the larger disc's really so much better or is it
just a mental thing!!! Cheers Brent

Hi Brent,
Regarding ss brake lines, I did this... can't say I noticed any difference, and it is actually an issue regarding the WOF. If someone notices them, they should fail the WOF as I understand.
Regarding the rust look. I bought a new set of the Mazda discs for my 1.6, took them to a plater and had them Cad plated over the plating that was on there already. After a couple of years they still look pretty good.

Apparently, the 1.8 upgrade is worth doing. If you do fr and rr the balance is
fine. Rather than SS lines, I made up a master cylinder brace. It did
noticeably firm up the pedal.

Some Japanese cars have the master cylinder brace already, mine does for example... and mine is a 1991 1.6
