What are likely cost to upgrade to power steering for 1990 Mx5? Is it
feasible, or better to swap to a car already with PS? any suggestions for
workshop to do it?

cost of upgrade to power steering?
hi marcus.
you may actually find someone wanting to "downgrade" from power steering
to non-assisted. some of the racers or purists may be interested.

cost of upgrade to power steering?
Hello
This was a piece in the Chch Club newsletter October 2000. The price may be
more now, but it gives you an idea of where to start...
Need Power Steering??
A club member recently wished to install power steering in their NZ new 1993
MX5. They approached Blackwell Motors (next door to Canterbury Mazda), who
explored the options for them. A new power steering unit from Japan was going
to cost $2-3,000, however the Service Manager at Blackwell Motors managed to
find a unit from a wrecked MX5 in Auckland, and quoted $1,100 to source and
install it. The final cost was just under $1,000, and it works a treat - just
like a new one.
For more details contact the Service Manager at Blackwell Motors, cnr Cashel &
Madras Streets, on 379 5500.
Ciao

hi Maaaaarcus,
Is yours a NZ car?
Do you want to do it for the steering effort, the better ratio, ...
the kudos ?
I'm thinking of going the other way, less weight and engine drag.
Guess that makes me a purist! It's an 1800 tho', don't think it fits
the other engine, sorry.

I think the 1800 Power steer will bolt straight on. When I converted my 1.6
car to 1.8 the 1.6 power steer attached straight on to the 1.8.
I was thinking of being a purest too. Got to swap the rack as well as all
the other bits. Not sure how big a job that all is.
