lumbar - any success? - Some!

Post by poison » Mon Oct 18, 2004 7:49 pm

An update for those who wish for a more permanent and cosmetically pleasing
cure for the lumber area support. I've had a play and this is what I came up
with.

a) Push the car seat all the way forward and tilt the seat back all the way
forward too.
b) Along the bottom edge of the back of the seat there are a row of little
metal rings holding the seat covering together. Cut the middle 3 rings with
some of your neighbours side cutters (maybe you can get away with using your
own if really pushed :-)
c) Keeping the seat pushed forward, tilt the seat back all the way back again.
d) Now for the good part, the whole of the middle lumbar section of the seat
can be pulled up and out from the bottom, giving easy access to the seat
frame. Thus giving stacks of room to insert any size and shape of foam you may
wish.
e) Once a good size is found, ADOS it onto the seat back. If you find you need
quite a thick piece you can cover the ends of the foam rubber with black
material so it can't be seen from the side.
f) Then drop the front down again, and use some wire to remake the 3 little
rings, or even some good thick cable ties, you don't even have to be tidy as
you can't see them. If you use a thick piece of foam it may be better to glue
the seat front down so it will follow the contour of the new piece. But have a
good test ride first.

Basically it's a no brainer job and well worth the effort for those of us over
1.3m high... ie; not Japanese! (Gomen nasai, jodan dao ne!, for any Nihon-jin
club members).
