Fitting metal grill to MX5
I would like one too thanks Carl. Even if you copy it on to brown paper or
somthing, it might be easier to send. Anyway let me know the cost.
To fit the grill I would like to replace the rather bulging factory fog/spot
lights with some slimmer lights that would fit in behind. Has any one out
there have any sugestions?
I have already removed the tie down/'tow Hooks'. and even that makes the
front look better. In my opinion any way.
Cheers Doug

Hi, Doug & all
I looked at getting original factory fog lights for my 1990 V Special to aid
daytime visibility - small dark car = potential to get driven over.
Wasn't that convinced about the factory option so went to Super Cheap Auto &
found a set of small spotlights for $25 a pair. They're oval, 60mm*50mm,
halogen (can't recall globe size sorry)& I've just screwed them into the
small flat area just above the outer vertical bar in the radiator "mouth".
I've also taken the lashing hooks out, so they're out of the way.
Mounted depth is about 60mm, so I think that they'd interfere with a grille
they way I've installed them - however they could be mounted well back
between the mouth & the radiator, if you could fabricate an appropriate
mounting set-up. Alternatively just make a small cut-out in the grille to
suit.
No great addition to night-time driving vision, as you'd expect for $25.
However, for day-time visibility - great - I just hooked them into the
fog-light circuit & generally leave them on.
Can send pictures if it would help.
Regards,
Greg
