The soft top on my 1990 MX5 is in otherwise god condition, however the Glue
used to attach various parts to the main fabric parts of the soft top is
starting to fail. In particular the tabs which attach the hood to the hood
bows are becomming detached. Befor I start experimenting with some of my own
ideas, does anyone have any experience of ths problem or any suggestions on
what to use to re-attach these parts where the glue is failing.
Cheers Simon

It's a common prob, I've had success with the glue they use to repair
inflatable boats, which has a hardening agent you add to it so the heat from
sun doesn't affect the adhesion.
Glues like ados or similar contact won't stand up to the heat and will unstick
themselves.
I got my glue from Incept Marine in Taihape ph; 06 3880729 or Any Inflatable
manufacturer may help ie Aquapro or Southern Pacific . These are both in Akld.
There is also a couple of companies who specailise in Repairs of Inflatables
that may help.

Anton

I used some ados F2 on the header rail on Cindy's about 12 months ago
without any problems so far and it's held up quite nicely. I hope someone
isn't going to tell me that's a fat no-no now! Ignorance is sometimes bliss,
but am looking forward to seeing some other solutions

I've found F2 lets go when it gets hot so interesting to see that it worked
ok for you, Dez.
I just bought some Bostik Titan Bond Plus to try on mine. Haven't had the
time yet. This stuff seems to stick to almost anything, even the plastic I
use to mix other glues on so they can be cleaned off later.
It sets to an off white colour so you have to be careful not to use it where
it will be visible. It remains flexible when dry so, as long as there is no
reaction with the roof material, should be good.
Grant.
