Gee Eric, you're good. I stopped most people because they were exceeding the
limit, not being unsafe.

So, by Ian's reasoning, people in the '20s and '30s should have just stopped
drinking and we'd still have prohibition.
And, what ever we do, don't protest about injustice.
BTW, the story about overpaying your fine originated in the UK, it didn't
work there either. demerits go on upon conviction, not how you pay your fine.

I don't know the exact detectors used, but I could pretty much bet that this
won't make an ounce of difference to detection. If the ground loop can
detect 4WDs & trucks forther than 500mm or more off the ground, a couple of
extra cm of seal won't make a difference - and the small effect of the added
metal can easily be tuned out (in fact ground loop detector circuits
generally self balance for the amount of surrounding metal & they just have
a high/med/low sensitivity switch).
However, you don't often see covered over loops these days as most road
resurfacing that I've seen recently, a layer of tarseal is ripped off the
road before new seal is layed. The road loop for the camera detector is
ripped up with it and new cuts are made in the new seal for the loop to be
re-layed (this happened at the end of my road recently)

Ross.In Hamilton new seal has been laid over a camera site.
Will the sensors in the road still work with the added thickness of seal?.

pay aKeeping to the same theme, can anyone comment on the urban legend that
claims that if you are fined, as in this example for speeding, you should
thenlittle more than the required amount, say $10 extra. The Fines Office are
cheque, obliged to refund the extra amount to you. But, if you do not cash their
thethen the account stays open. Demerit points are not allocated to you until
total urban mythaccount is closed.

So did I, but a certain commonsense and discretion was applied, I imagine
that you did the same. Do you remember verbal and written warnings?

Bill,
I believe that if you look at the ticket you will see that your option regarding defence is to make a written submission. Or perhaps this is if you admit guilt? You will need to decide if you are going to admit speeding (ie over 50) and then make some argument around that as defence, or deny speeding (ie you were not going over 50) and then defend that.

This has been a fasinating email stream with about as much focus as a
Sky Tower laser light show on New years eve!
Thanks though Gary, I still have3n't decided what I'm going to do.
Probably it will depend on my workload whether I can take time to get up
some civil servant's nose (I'm pretty good at doing that).

Bill

The MX5 was designed and built to give the illusion of speed without
speeding. How many times have you thought you were travelling fast only to
glance at the speedo and find you are going slower than you felt!

That's so true. I was absolutely bollocked by a plain clothes cop for doing
burnouts when I was a kid. Actually, it was in an old Morris, so they were
really smoulder-outs. Anyway, I was so scared, I behaved for at least the
next 24 hours.
But, unlike today, I didn't begrudge the cop. He wasn't just after dollars
and was doing his job properly.
