Mercedes Air Scarf

Post by Simon Lord » Wed Mar 31, 2004 11:53 am

Sounds like a good idea to me - look what wearing a scarf in an open-topped
car did for Isadora Duncan. Personally, I have found I get more neck problems
since buying the MX than I ever did before (not that I'd admit it to my wife).
Have just fitted an NB factory windblocker to my NA in an attempt to alleviate
the problem (a saga in itself)

(and no, I'm old enough to remember Isadora Duncan - I just know my history)

If you are finding it a bit cold when driving with the top down a good trick is to put the heater on windscreen as the hot air goes up the screen and then is circulated by the natural buffer of the wind going over the cabin area. Keeps you nice and toastie warm.

Hi Simon,

Are you trying to tell us that your wife has been a pain in the neck since you
bought the MX5? I know the problem!

Seriously, I bought a Windblocker from Le Mans Fabrics fairly early on in my
MX5 experience, having recognised the problem. It was easy to fit and 100%
effective, if anyone in Auckland wants to see one, give me a shout

More than my life is worth even to hint at such a thing...

Yes, I use the heater on feet and screen all the time. Not so much the cold as
the draught which seems to affect me on longer (or faster) journeys. The
factory windblocker is good, very neat, but won't mount quite as far forward
in the NA as in the NB because of the stabiliser bar, so I don't think I get
the full benefit, alas. Looks much neater than most of the aftermarket ones,
though. Bought new through the Mazda dealers, cost is about $925 - bought over
the net from the UK it was $210 plus shipping.

Hi Simon, I have fitted a NB Windblocker to my 1996 NA. I took the brace bar out and fitted the windblocker as done in the NB. Works fine and no noticable change to the cars ride without the bar.

My favourites are a decent B-3 sheepskin flight jacket and
oilskin baseball cap from The Hat Factory in Auckland with
possum skin ear flaps... which is also useful if you don't
want to listen to the passenger next to you or other wind
noise ;-)

Works well in mid-winter Wellington southerlies with the
top down.

For the oilskin hat with possum fur you can go to here:

www.1.co.nz

Not only are they very warm, but they come in the right colour (if your car
is BRG!).

Grant in sunny Blenheim (but getting cooler in the evenings).
