Shipping from the US

Post by Mike Pearson - WYSIWYG... » Tue Mar 16, 2004 8:27 pm

Hi, someone just asked me about my experiences with toship.com,
(a US reshipping company), based upon an e-mail I wrote on the
list in 2002.

Basically steer clear of them. It's a one-man band, and the
guy seems to disappear from all contact for weeks at a time.

If you are having difficulties with a US company, I have
found the Better Business Bureau in the US will knock on
their door for you. Sometimes the State Attorney General
or similar will have a complaints procedure too.

My preferred US reshipper is currently www.myus.com - I've
used them for the last 12 months, and shipped over 300 items
through them. They're pricey, but they're using DHL at
effectively the same $/kg as US Post, so you get the goods
from US - NZ in 3 days.

My opinion on the US Postal Service is, it gets here, 95 times
out of 100. 5% is still a big loss, and insurance claims
are a real hassle - I've just received a form from the NZ Post
Office for a parcel lost from the US in July 2003, the process
is being done by the US seller, so that's 8 months and we're
only half way through the process.

Having said that, I have a chrome fuel cap from Texas,
spark plugs and leads from Illonois, racing beat intake
from Pennsylvania, mud flaps from Mississipi - even with
freight and sometimes GST, at = the NZ retail price.
