Not sure where you are, Chris, but if in Auckland then Als Upholstery in
Glenfield would be my recommendation for a repair. I it can be done, he can do
it. He's also a supporter of the club.

What was so special about your gear knob?

I am in Auckland (Albany). I will chase up Als - Thanks for the
recommendation.

The Gear Knob was just a pretty shiny object (a gift from another
member). Nothing out of the ordinary.

see a sparkle green NA MX5 going past (AUQ 502 - still haven't got round to a
personal plate as 'Franchise' is too long to abbreviate to 6 characters in any
meaningful form).

Hi Chris, depending on what price you are quoted, you could check with Don at Autoway Services in Hamilton (07)847 5484 as he has second hand and new tops available at good prices and can either supply or fit. I am in Albany as well and if you pick up a econd hand roof I would be happy to help you fit it if needed.

happen.

I will calls Dons and see what he has as well.

Al's can do a weather proof patch for iro $50. I guess it will be ugly
as hell with the roof up - Just another reason to keep it down.

August/September. Sorry to hear about your roof. How often does
roof-slashing occur... as this is starting to get me worried as I'm planning
to import both steering wheel and gearknob...

Hi Robert, Roof slashing is a rare problem. The main thing is not to leave anything of value is sight that would tempt a thief. Doesnt matter what car you have, if someone wanted your gear knob or steering wheel, they will get in so don't be put off buying the best car in the world.

I've driven an MX5 since 1991 in both the UK (Manchester area) and in NZ

doors.If you lock them they will cut the roof to reach their arm in to
unlock the door and get in.If you dont lock the doors they will get in
without damage.If you have a alarm it will go off when the door is

No I think there are just some slime balls out there who aren't just
idiots they are nuts!.

My top was down, parked in Herne Bay in front of a friend's 2.5 million
dollar house and some slime ball came along and poured brake fluid all
over my car last 30 December. Just this week I got it back repainted,
with a new top and some new carpeting (thanks to Greg at Accent and Al
at Al's upholstery).

Just slime balls out there -- I've never experienced anything close to
that back in the US and have parked it in some questionable areas (I
also owned a MX5 in the US as well).

I am sorry to say that you are right Ross, thieves will be thieves. It's a shame we can't connect a large capacitor to the gear lever and hit them with a few thousand volts. The problem is that, if you do, the Police will prosecute YOU! It's a strange world!
