Hi Nix, it is possible it was built in 98, but I doubt it. Probably
registered in 98. I'm assuming is was NZ new, not an imported roadster?

Have a check of your VIN number on the firewall & check the year letter
(11th Character - see below). Is is a V?
Cheers, zorruno

Example Miata/MX5 VIN number:
JM1NB3518N0123456

J : Country of Origin, J = Japan
M : Car Manufacture, M = Mazda
1 : Vehicle type, 1=cars, 2=trucks, 3=MPVs etc. (All Miata's are cars)
NB : Model Generation NA=90-98, NB=99-
35 : is code for Mazda Convertible Body Style
1 : Engine size, 1=1.6L B6P (90-93), 3=1.8L BP (94-)
8 : is a check digit, 0 thru Z
N : N is for year 1992 or the following:

1990=L 1995=S 2000=Y 2005=5
1991=M 1996=T 2001=1 2006=6
1992=N 1997=V 2002=2 2007=7
1993=P 1998=W 2003=3 2008=8
1994=R 1999=X 2004=4 2009=9

0 : Manufacturing Plant. 0=Hiroshima 1=Hofu

123456 : is the car production number, each new model year starts with
100001, so this was the 23456th car built in 1992.

Hi zorruno,

Thanks for the info on reading the VIN number - have to confess that my car is an import so I guess the '3' means it arrived here in 2003. Have had it since May last year and purchased through East City before they closed down the used car sales dept. Anyway, I love it to bits and am really looking forward to more great weather so I can enjoy the drive to and from the Shore everyday :-) and some of the club activities as have recently joined.

Thanks
Nix

Hi zorruno, think you will find that only applies to Miatas (US models)
have checked the VIN numbers on my cars and does not compute!!
