Hi Chrissy

The horn fuse will be in the fuse box under the dash. Not sure which one it
is on a 90 but may be the same one as the stop lights.

The relay will be under the bonnet on the left hand side. It may be covered
by a rubber boot. On the 96 it is on a small metal bracket with the park
light relay and the headlight relay. The horn and park light relays may be
labelled "LA10" and are smaller than the headlight one.

What about this link:

http://www.mx5club.org.nz/maintenance/fuses/

By the way, if your car has air horns fitted, there may be an extra in-line
fuse (follow the wires from the compressor to find it. The compressor will
be connected to the horns by a length of plastic tubing).

As Euen ponted out, I think the horn shares the same fuse as the stop
lights.

I am insured with AA, they require an alarm with infrared detectors and
an immobiliser. I have a Mongoose which was installed by Automotive
Security Systems in Glenfield. Insuring the car the first time is an
expensive business, but having had a major claim recently and having it
so hassle free, is worth the cost of insuring with a good reputable
company.

Hi,

I just purchased a 1989 model and have been told by my insurers that I
need a dual immobiliser.

1. Can you recommend any insurers?
2. Can you recommend any brand of immobiliser that is well suited
to our cars?

I would also like to have this car thoroughly checked by a mechanic who
specialises in MX5's. Who do list members recommend in Auckland?

Regards,

Jolyon Rusell

You could ask your insurer what brands they endorse
and installers.
BUT BE WARNED!!
Most installers get paid stuff all to get the alarms
in and they often do a very poor job. Make sure you
tell them you want a good job done and you want to see
the end result Before you pay...
My "insurance approved" alarm system was thrown in and
wired right under the steering column with the siren
fuses right next to the ignition lock.
Now if you are a theif about to steal a car where is
the first place you look??? Thats right. Next to
the ignition! It would have taken 1 second to disable.
I ripped it out and reinstalled it using hidden
wiring, and new location.
Moral of the story, the alarm is only as good as the
Installer!!!
