Tyre recommendations

Hi all,

Am looking at replacing the tyres on our '92 MX5 before we get into winter.
Been to a couple of tyre outlets so far recommending either Bridgestone
Turansa GR80 or Yokohama c.drive. Does anyone have experience with either of
these tyres or can recommend anything better? Currently have Yokohama's on the
car, however grip on the rear not great.

Try Toyo T1-S or T1-R. Awesome!!! I had Yoko's before that and got sick of
sliding around in the wet. Bought My T1s'... what a difference!
The Toyos have awesome grip, wet or dry. A whole new driving experience.

G'day Simon and Zena,

Well I'd class the GR80 and the C-Drive as a "touring tyre". Perfect for
your Ford/Holden/Taxi.

But you want your MX-5 to grip through corners.

I run the Toyo T1-R's, they're a great tyre. Good in the wet and seem to
last well.

Also consider the Bridfestone Potenza S-03

Don't buy the T1-S they're likely old stock and have been sitting around
awhile.

The T1-R's are an improvement on the T1-S and you'll know the stock is
fresher.

I ran the Toyo T1-S's originally and the T1-R's since Nov 04 they're great.

I'm on my third set of GIII's. Second set on my NA and first set on my NB. I
don't know about their grip as far as getting the car to slide on sealed
roads (don't have the confidence in my skills for that!) but am very happy
with their grip in both wet and dry conditions. For my driving there is very
little difference in the feel in the wet (not that it gets very wet here
often). I also find them comfortable and reasonably quiet plus the wear rate
is good. These are on standard factory 14" rims on both cars.
When I put new tyres on my Honda Odyssey, Firestone suggested I try the
MY-01 as they are much cheaper than the GIII's and more suited as a touring
tyre. They didn't consider them a new version of the GIII at all. The
Honda's on factory optional 16" rims. When I bought it it was on a new set
of Federal tyres. These were noisy and quite a harsh ride. The MY-01's are
much more comfortable and quieter than the Federals were. I hope they last a
lot longer as well!
