David Parker & Powelliphanta Augustus

Post by MadMaz » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:03 pm

Hi all

David Parker (Minister of Transport and also Energy Minister) is now well and
truly in the hot seat. Not only is he battling roading funding problems, but
now it's being made known that the country is facing an electricity supply
crisis.

The CEO of Meridian Energy, Keith Turner, has told a Parliamentary select
committee that electricity supply is currently very tenuous. Meanwhile, Parker
says there is no cause for alarm. He says the Electricity Commission has a
published set of assessment criteria which are intended to assure supply
against a one in 60 year drought.
Mmmmmm...

I contacted Parker's office today, wanting to know why we haven't received a
reply to our letter re roading improvements, driver education programmes and
where our fuel and road taxes are going, sent on the 12th February. Was
assured by his Private Secretary that we will definitely receive a reply - but
not for some weeks - as Mr. Parker was very busy right at the moment.

I replied that there are 30 people in addition to me, who are very keen to get
his reply as quickly as possible.

Apparently the West Coast Stockton coal mine has it's output halved (by $10
million in lost earnings a week & threatening 150 jobs) because a new
sub-species of Powelliphanta 'Augustus' Snail has been discovered on-site.
Parker is apparently mediating between Solid Energy and DOC over the issue.

Meanwhile our NI highways keep falling apart at the seams.

I'll stay on Parker's case until we get an answer - and then I'll take it
further for as long as it takes to get the truth re especially: "What are you
doing with our fuel and roading taxes?"

Cheers to all
Mark

Doing the daily check on trademe.co.nz to see what goodies there are for
the MX5 and I was interested to see this stylebar for sale:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/0001 ... n-49588672
.htm

It has a delivery time of (up to) 6 weeks and a buy now of NZD $495

Funny enough when I went to ebay - I found the exact same unit (with the
same pic that the guy had taken a picture of) with a buy now of $73 USD
($110 NZD)

S-BAR-92-93-94_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42609QQitemZ8042854211QQrdZ1

I guess he is doing nothing illegal, but I personally find it pretty
immoral.

So if you are in the market for a stylebar buy direct via the US -
Paypal is easy to use and surface shipping is not that expensive -
you'll save hundreds.

Failing that you can get a proper rollbar made for not that much more
(not starting the rollbar / stylebar argument again - just mentioning
it)
