My 1990 v-spec has failed a warrant due to the hand-brake being unbalanced...
Is this something I am able to fix myself, or does it require specialist
attention?
Have had a poke around on miata.net but can only find some detailed
drawings of the whole park-brake assembly, but no info on how to balance
it.

My 1990 NA also failed its last warrant for same reason, what I did was
to take off the tyre and liberally squirt a 'freeing lubrication' into
the assembly and then manually work the handbrake on and off 50x...I
found that the plunger thingamy had kind of frozen there and with
lubrication and working it came looser and the system self
regulated...passed the warrant. If this does not work then a dismantling
of the assembly is probably required.

we're in Welcome bay too...
red 1990 with gold wheels. (theres a few of that
description in tauranga now..)
Theres a silver one right next door, and two red ones
and BRG one just around the corner on Kaitemako road.
should be back on the road in a few weeks with the
TURBO, so if you see a flash of red youll know who it
is...
Our group has its monthly meeting on the last
thursday of the month usually at imbibe at the mount.

Who's stupid idea was it to pull the car apart in the middle of summer anyway??? Oh well, should be zoom zoomin very soon.
