Hi All,

I am a new member of Auckland MX5 club and have been reading the mailing list
with interest What a varied subject list !
Have a NB turbo (Most fun you can have with your clothes on.
But have a problem with gearchange its like stirring porrige with a wooden
spoon. Have seen that remote should have oil in so opened up and seems pretty
dry.
Sites I have looked at are American and recommend Ameican oils (Redline )
Can anyone tell me what NZ oil I should be using and filled to what level?
Thanks for the entertaining BRG / RED thread but will stick to my pure WHITE
( Great White Shark)

Only the 6 speed gearboxes don't have the top reservoir. There's plenty of
references in the Miata.net forums. See the garage section also. Use the
same oil as the gearbox, any good GF4 or GF5 75-90 oil is satisfactory.
I know the Americans swear by redline, but Amsoil is available in Henderson
(just beside where I work), and other synthetics are also available.

Stirring porrige???
The MX5 gear change is usually described as having 'rifle bolt'
precision. Thats one reason why its such a great car

Yup, there's 2 rubber boots on the shift lever.

If your shifter feels sloppy chances are one of them has broken.

Mine last about 50,000 kms.

Under those 2 rubber "boots" is a reservoir you can fill with oil although
our MX-5 come from the factory with it empty .. I don't know why.

I use Redline MT90 in both the top reservoir and the box itself.

If you shift is still sloppy perhaps the plastic bush on the base of your
shifter has worn down a little, I replaced mine after about 80,000, but have
now replaced it with a copper version from www.wheelspin.com.au.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
