Hi,
Can anyone advise me on who gives a good MX5 service?
My 5 is a NA 1989 with just over 50000 Ks I understand it may also need a
cambelt change soon.
I am in South Auckland so need someone near.
Any ideas on cost.
Roy

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will respond, however my
understanding is a cam belt change is required at ~100K. Of course only
you can determine whether your MX5 really has only 50K on it. Especially
if it is an import, which most are.
Candidly a NA '89 with only 50K would mean someone only drove it ~3K a
year . I doubt that VERY much.

As the car is 17 years old, if the cam belt hasn't been done before, then it
is a good idea to do it anyway. The rubber will be hardening and failure may
well occur. The good thing is that the MX5 engines are non interference so
no expensive damage if the belt lets go, just the inconvenience.
You should look at all the hoses also. Brake fluid should also be changed at
this age.

Low mileage cars are out there.
I had the speedo removed on my car and certified that it had not been
tampered with, as well as looking at the VIR check - ensuring that the
mileage (of the one other NZ owner who did a private import via
Greenlane Mazda) all married up.
It has now completed a huge 43k.
Still has all the original stickers everywhere and looks brand new (well
when I wash it).
I agree with Kevin's post - it's a good time to get everything changed
- belts, fluids etc regardless.
