emails vs forums: GET A FORUM!!

Post by Peter Vullings » Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:02 pm

I notice that there are other vehicle owners clubs in NZ, as well as other
car related clubs (such as the constructor's car club) many (most) of which
do not have forums either.

Perhaps some joint effort whereby each of these clubs has its own forum
subset on the same forum would be the way to go? Having not only a central
resource for the MX5, but for car related clubs in general would be great.

You can always bookmark one page in and you would never even be aware of the
other clubs/forums if you didn't want to be...

I can set one up if you need, with the php garage like this one:

- Dave.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

emails vs forums: GET A FORUM!!

Hi all

I haven't yet been misfortunate enough to receive one of Bill's infamous
personal e-mails and I am sure that if I had then I would have been behind
the forum-push from the start. Even if Bill goes away there isn't any
guarantee that another "Bill" won't come along and haunt the list in the
future (which I believe wouldn't actually be a problem if some others were
able to bite their lip and shut up once the ribbing went OTT).

I gather that a body is required to facilitate a forum if there were to be
one ... I'm sure that zorruno has had enough of the list after his long time
at the top - do we have a volunteer to step up and offer to set-up and run
this supposed new forum if it were to go ahead?

Good night

Kate

emails vs forums: GET A FORUM!!

Post by Peter Vullings » Wed Jan 18, 2006 8:51 am

Hi all,

I am a web developer by trade.
My site: www.pixelthis.co.nz
My car site: www.pea.co.nz/envy/

If you need any help, let me know.

An idea is to set up a dummy forum user called MX5list, and set their email
address to the MX5list email address. This user then subscribes to receive a
daily digest of forum messages, that way whoever is still using the email
list and not the forums will get all the messages also (once a day, compiled
into a single email).

Cheers,
Peter

Good point on the email Peter.

I have created a forum and have sent it to the committee - I will leave
it in their hands to see if they would like to move forward.

emails vs forums: GET A FORUM!!

Gidday all!

Im new. My computer was down for 3-4 weeks? And when i checked my email i
got heaps of good stuff & some crap?
But its all good!
The good stuff outweighed the crap. So im gonna stay!

Im with a few forums & they are alot better than emailing. Like Glen saids
if there's any abuse etc they can get locked by the administrator. So we
dont have to see any of that stuff.
Is there no administrator on this list? Is this like, feel free to write
whatever you like?
If it is, we lucky the MX5 list has only 1 dispute!
Well, what ive seen anyway.
But the rest of it is really good info & i was impressed with the homepage
too!
Found out i had stuff in my car that i didnt know about! heh heh...
So keep on keeping on MX5List or Forum?

Happy emailing! :-)

All,

In the process of having a MANZ certified roll bar (with all
Homologation paperwork etc) made for the car. Work starts next
Wednesday.

The only question left is the diameter of the steel used. Both 38mm and
45mm are legal (both with 2.5mm wall thickness).

Now this may sound stupid, but, I am trying to ensure that the thickness
appears in proportion to the car (so is 45mm so thick making the car
look 'top heavy'? or is 38mm too small looking')

For those with roll bars - what thickness have you used and how does it
look?
