Hi everyone, just a quick email to my personal email address from Bill
tonight, thought you all might like to have a read. Please be advised
committee members I will be petitioning to have Bill removed from the
MX5 club.

I will also be notifying to police of what I class as a pretty blatant
threat!

I am sure that committee members, as well as other MX5ers will agree
with me that there is no place for this type of person in any MX5 club.

If everyone was out driving MX-5s then we'd all be happy and the world would
be a great place.

Bill must have been on a roll last night - I got the following [edited
to get thru the filters]:

"You are not simply on the radar screen, you WILL BE in my lawyer's
'cross hairs'.

Permit me to leave no doubt in your mind. I am prepared to spend
thousands of dollars to legally castrate a ?UCK"N DUMB TWIT such as
yourself!

Happy New Year A$$HoLE!

Yours faithfully

William F Rehm Jr."

I agree with Ken - I know that some of us rub others up the wrong way,
but there are lines that should not be crossed - and blatant threats
(like the one to Ken) are simply not acceptable.

Anyway - the suns out, the birds are singing and I'm off to have a nice
drive up the west coast - have a good day all.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Golly guys... what have you done to make this person so angry?
I don't feel safe driving my MX5 around now... I could be a real
target for an angry man who can't spell and gets his words all
muddled! there is nothing worse than "wordrage".
Maybe I'd better buy a nice safe Skoda and keep my head down.

Peter,

Love your website - very tidy

You can try mazspare in Hamilton - I was there before xmas and they had
a number of wrecks there. Another option is to try and get one via
Turners - they sell the insurance writeoffs, and are probably the
cheapest way to get a hold of one.

Good luck - and please keep us posted on the project.

Hi Robyn n Rich,

Nice name, lol :) That would be great if I could get the contact details
of your friend. I won't be starting the build for a while, but it would
be great to have contacts in NZ who I can bounce ideas off or help me
out with problems.

If you could email me: peter(at)pixelthis.co.nz

Thanks!

Hi there Peter,

If you wish,, I can put you in touch with a friend who is also doing a
custom project on an mx5,,, usually does an awesome job. Perhaps you
could bounce ideas off one another.

He is "Concept Cars NZ ". Let me know if you want to make contact.
Good luck with the project.. will be waiting to see the outcome.

Errrmmm, what did you all expect? Flowers and chocolates?

Let's hope new forum members haven't logged into all of this, and been put off joining a great club full of generally nice people.
Can we keep this stuff off this list in future, please?

Thanks

Three points here:
1) "wordrage" - I like it!

2) What makes you think Skodas are safe!

3) And Bill... Damn, I've forgotten what I was going to say. Still, it
can't have been important.

Actually I never say no to some nice flowers and choccies,... :OD

Just to add my 2 cents worth, I'll start by saying I really enjoy being part of the club and receiving other members thoughts and ideas on car-related (and life-in-general) topics via the forum.

To those involved in this current "debate" I'd like to point out that probably the majority of forum viewers have only a vague idea as to what these forwarded emails are all about. If anyone cares to go back over what has been placed on the forum it doesn't make a great deal of sense and I'm sad to say that what is here comes across as somewhat petty and pretty nasty. It seems as tho this thread relates to something which started on out on Trademe (excuse me if this is incorrect), and I note that the link is no longer accessible for those of us who might want to view the full story so that they can make their own assessment. (Please note that I am not in any way asking for the full details to be aired here).

I guess the point I'd like to put across is that we are all adults and can make informed decisions based on information given, I myself prefer to have all the facts before making any kind of judgement (if there's one to be made). As a club we want to encourage people to feel good about coming forward to discuss their ideas and these types of emails would be off-putting to anyone, including a "first time" viewer, so thank you Graeme for gently reminding us of this and thank you Keith for attempting a little injection of humour :O)

I don't know what the solution is, perhaps the individuals involved have created their own monster by replying direct to each other in the first place...

To finish can I just say to everyone please do keep sending in your great thoughts and ideas, that's what the forum was created for.

Covering my ears and hiding under my desk now in anticipation of the fall-out,

Nix

Thought I'd give you guys first crack at this - a couple of ppl were
discussing it a while back... will put it on trademe otherwise.

One used towbar for sale - bolts up to the tie-down bracket holes for
an easy install.

I never installed it due to my ricey straight-thru exhaust
conflicting, but welcome anyone to try it out.

Looking for ~$80 ..? Was quoted about $400 to fabricate one by various
places around town ...

Will fit an NA (89-97) model, maybe even NB but you'd have to do a
trial fitting to know for sure.

Hi Graeme

My impression after a short time as a forum correspondent is that the members
of the NZ MX5 club are refined and kindly people, always willing and ready to
help with their considerable experience and knowledge (along with the clever
humour which I always appreciate including those posted today!)

It's always been a very pleasant forum & I've always appreciated the member's
responses.

Problems very often crop up on all sorts of forums these days - it's not all
that uncommon and I'm surprised based on the law of averages that only one
grumpy chappie has shown up on the MX5 list since October 05 when I first
logged in. Only one out of many. I think that's pretty good going actually &
demonstrates the genuine spirit of the NZ MX5 club and it's members!

It's a testament to those who choose to drive a great car!

Cheers

Hi Guys
All forums naturally get the peaks and troughs of humankind. Fortunately most
people sit on the equator and therefore don't get potted at...

Nicky you are so right. Most of us (even us newbies) are going to filter out
all the extremes of opinion (anyone not thoroughly sick of the faintly purile
Red Vs BRG debate??!) and carry on enjoying the value of MX5 opinion expressed
with all the useful data therein. So thank you to the wise counsel often read
here and even the humour. As for you guys at the fringes - it will get real
cold out there!!!

Very well said Nicky!

Having once been involved in a similar controversy, may I comment that, on
any forum which allows and encourages a robust exchange of views, there will
always be times that members disagree, and occassionally disagree very
strongly.

At the point where the matter becomes personal, or if it was personal to
start with, it no longer belongs on the list and should be continued
personally, as it would appear that both Ken and Bill were doing.

The problem arises when one or the other party takes it back to the list,
soliciting support for their particular viewpoint. I am not having a go at
Ken over this, Bill did the same thing on a previous occassion, but personal
disputes do not belong on the list. Apart from anything else, we do not have
all of the facts, only those which each party chooses to release.

To Ken and Bill, both people for whom I have a bit of time, may I offer the
advice that defamation is very difficult to prove, the value of any loss is
even harder to prove and in failing to prove it, or failing to prove a loss
equal to the amount initially claimed, leaves you liable for the costs of
the other party. It is rare that anyone wins. Publishing private emails,
with the intention of bringing the other party into disrepute, is also not a
smart idea.

Guys, let's cool it a bit, and if you want someone to mediate, I am happy to
do it, if you both agree to go that route.

Regards

Eric

We so often get accused of being a club of hair dressers, so may Now suggest
we have become a club of politically correct soft c*cks. Ever car club or
on-line automotive club has big fall outs and aggression (read any on-line
forum). Our club is full of normal everyday people, so we have these fall
outs. Just because we drive MX5's does not make us 'special', just normal
car folks. Some of us have given each other a bit of stick because it's fun
to wind each other up, and not just Bill, others have had their moments, me
included, even the BRG thing, you all claim to not care but still get antsy
and add your 10 cents worth. I thought it's all said in fun until I get
letters threatening me.

So for those who get all testy about this I'm sure if you got abusive and
threatening emails sent to your private email from a club member you would
wish to vent your anger publicly. That's what has happened here. I made some
inane comment and ended up getting physical threats to "cut my balls off"
with various other forms of abuse and threats, as can be seen others have
had much worse. So get off your high chairs welcome to the real words, not
just chocolates and kisses, although can I ask Nicky how many chocolates a
kiss is worth, I better start saving my pocket money.

To everyone else sorry, but I'm sure you'd be pretty unhappy if some person
on the list sent you threatening emails.

Well done Nix,
I was contemplating writing something myself but I was to angry to be open
minded or civil.
I strongly suggest that those with an axe to grind do it elsewhere, this
isn't an assassination forum, nor is it appropriate for any member to decide
to "partition" for anyone's removal.
So far in about 3 years we have had only 2 or 3 instances of what anyone
could call bad/obnoxious behaviour, pig headedness, or what ever, please
don't let all the great things that are accomplished and the camaraderie
that's created be ruined.
If my memory serves it's the same protagonists as the last event? <could be
wrong, sorry if I am>

Personally, you can both go to your naughty chairs and don't come back until
you can play with others, or put the boxing gloves on and sort your
differences like "gentlemen".

Now Nix, move over, you've got company under the desk :)

No Biff, I'm not involved this time. However, I have, in the light of Ken's
most recent email, slightly moved my position.

It would have previously appeared that Ken's emails were simply to reinforce
his position in a dispute with Bill, for which they may or may not have been
some provocation on Ken's part.

However, if it is true, as alleged, that upon little or no provocation on
Ken's part, Bill has, over a long period, been bombarding Ken's personal
email with the type of email which we all know Bill can write, that is a
matter of some considerable concern. (I am forced to say that I recall some
highly derogatory emails, aimed at Ken, which were posted on the list in
response to some of his early questions).

Ken would then, in my humble opinion, have every right to seek our support
and we would have a duty to him as a member of our club to provide such
protection from this type of thing as we are able to.

However, to the best of my knowledge, nobody in the club, or on the list,
has had enough information, from either side, to make a fair judgement, and
Bill is entitled to defend himself.

The list is not the place for that to happen, nor are the list members the
appropriate people to decide this matter. I do suggest however, that if one
of our members is being forced from the list by the actions of another
member, we should all be concerned and the appropriate people should
consider the matter.

Regards

Eric

As a relative new member I am very disappointed to see a club web page
allowed to become the forum for two silly people to air the disputes.

Gentlemen please, if you have a problem then sort it out in private, if you
feel that the club should be involved then approach the committee and
request the assistance, do not air all your dirty washing for all of us to
see.

Thank you

Hi Gazza and all,

Thanks for the link about the air intae. The NA we have has a VERY jury
air intake... it looks like the original owner used plastic plumbing
pie. It instead of a curve they used 270 degree (geuss) V to move the
air from the filter to the air flow meter! I assume this plays havoc
with turbulence going into the motor and it is one thing we need to look
at getting 'Bets" running better. Will look at this over the next
couple of weeks and let you know how we are getting on.

Cheers

Sorry - I am unsure who to point this to, so could the appropriate
person let me know.

Given all the fun with the "Be Advised" emails, I was thinking if there
were ways to manage this a little better.

One thought that springs to mind is to move the email list into a hosted
forum. That stops people who are not interested simply not reading that
thread, and the moderators the easy ability delete a thread once it gets
out of hand. At the moment once its sent we all get the mails whether
we are interested or not.

Another advantage of the forum software is that you can keep messages
(postings and private messages) within the forum software and this
prevents people bombarding your personal accounts (unless you chose to
offer your personal contact details) - Just an Idea.

Anyway - if the club thinks that this is a helpful idea - I will gladly
sponsor the forum, the hosting and the bandwith. Please let me know.

As an aside - I know that I contributed to the "Be Advised" thread by
replying with one of the emails the Bill sent me also, and looking back
probably should not have. The sad thing here is that we have lost
someone from this list over this (Ken who asked to be removed) - and I
don't really think he deserved what he ended up with.

Actually I never say no to some nice flowers and choccies,... :OD
Oohh you're easy! It takes a little more than a few choccies and
flowers to get me to say yes! :-)
