Post by Ken McNoe » Tue Jan 03, 2006 6:20 pm

Hi everyone!

I have today brought a black rubber aerial for the car, and since I have
the original aerial was wondering if anyone knows how to fit it???
Anything I should look out for etc??

Many thanks

I assume the rubber aerial has a lead attached but it is too short to reach
the radio. Does the lead from the radio to your present aerial have a plug
and socket at the base of the aerial to connect the two together? If so,
just remove the present aerial and plug the lead from the rubber one into
the lead from the boot to the radio. I assume your present aerial is not an
automatic electric one.
Don't expect good performance from the rubber aerial, especially on am,
because of its short length unless it has an integrated amplifier. In that
case you will need a power connection as well.

Hi Grant

The lead and plug aren't an issue. I have a separate plug in the boot,
makes the job easy. I don't listen to am ever, so that's not a major
issue. Just park my car at uni a lot and have had a few cars outside
work have their aerial broken.

My question related more to removing the original aerial (1990)).
Is there a trick to this, it doesn't look easy!!

My NA was a 1992 and had the electric aerial. It was easy to remove and
replace with an original one. The top of the mount (on the outside of the
car) was threaded so all you have to do was undo the outer part of the
housing. The whole lot then comes off the car quite easily. I would think
the fixed whip antenna uses a similar mounting system.
Hope that's the information you need.
