Cooling Fan not Functioning

Post by kiwi73 » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:56 pm

Hey

Have a 1990 NA. Overheated on Christmas Day after drive through Waitakeres. I noticed the cooling fan wasnt going

Radiator was on the way out so purchased a new one, also new thermostat and thermoswitch.

Checked the fan connected direct to battery with multimeter drawings about 7amps.

Checked relay. Couldnt quite check continuity with multimete...r not enough hands. Ran voltage across relay and clicked an carried so its seems to be working.

I tried use jumper between Ground and TND and turned key on.. fan does not go.

I'm thinking its a connection problem somewhere. Just to note the thermoswitch wire (that goes into a femalee connector) also has another wire coming off it - looks like a female. Anyone know what this is for?

Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe an earth problem?

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Also dont forget the fan only trips in after a certain temp so its not on all the time.Mine needs to get fairly warm at idle before it works.
