Where to buy a new NB Battery

Post by Blocknite » Tue Jul 23, 2019 9:55 am

Hey Folks - Spoke to Mazda dealer and they quoted NZD$557 inc GST for a new battery (that's insanity).

Anyone got any idea what aftermarket battery will fit 1998 NB?

Has a new alarm system so chances are that + something else is draining it.

You can use any suitably sized lead acid battery from Repco, Supercheap etc. Just measure up your current one.
The one Mazda quoted you on was probably the OEM style gel battery. A very good design, and long life, but not essential.

you can its an ns40 battery easily if you also buy some new battery hold down clamps from supercheap as the ns 40 battery is about 20mm taller than an mx battery. take note of the size and orientation of the terminals.

you can also fit a cheap U1R ride on lawn mower battery as its actually the same size as the mx battery but this requires new cable lugs to be crimped on in place of the existing connections as the u1r battery has bolt on terminals and not posts.

ive been running a NS40 battery for nearly 20 years without issue.
