New radio aerial

Post by warrior » Tue Jun 04, 2013 5:09 pm

My electric aerial in buggered and can not be fixed, New ones are about $150.00....and I don't want to pay that. What have people used to replace the standard aerial? Where did they get it from? I would prefer a small rubber mast if possible but what can you guys suggest? Anyone got a working second hand OM one for sale?

What do you mean by buggered? If it is just the fact the mast is not going up and down automatically a replacement mast from Mazda is about $47. About an hours work and you'll have a fully working aerial. If you need a hand doing it then give me a shout as I have recently done mine at the same time as my stereo upgrade.

The mast is bent? And there is no plastic tooth bit at all on the bottom of it, I have tried to get the mast out but have had no luck. Also I have damaged the plastic thread on the mast while trying. I would love a hand but not sure if it is past fixing or not?

I spose the question is, How do I remove the metal aerial mast from the electric aerial? It wont just pull out.

Mine was the same. Bent mast and when I opened it up the plastic teeth part was in about 4 parts. It is fixable with a bit of patience. If you pm me with your address and maybe a contact number I can pop round and get the aerial out and back in for you if you want.

Has anyone gotten prices for a new rubber mast off another car? (i.e. most of the newer mazdas have them- Mazda 2, Mazda 3 etc)....I did look up a price for one off a Honda Jazz/Fit but it was pretty expensive new (~$140 I think)

My aerial is also slightly bent but I think it would look better with a 'short and thick does the trick' replacement anyway.

I've got a working factory one that I can take out of my car as I don't use the radio.
PM me.
