Stuck caliper piston

Post by RMS » Mon Jan 16, 2012 2:23 pm

Here's a new one for me.. I upgraded to braided steel goodridge brake lines a while back and when I was replacing my brake pads the other day I couldn't get the piston to retract fully.

Turns out that the banjo bolt supplied with the lines was too long and protrudes into the cylinder of the caliper so that the piston was contacting it when pushed back in.

Something to be aware of anyway, I only realised this after deciding to rebuild my front calipers.

I don't think it's a big deal but something to be aware of nonetheless

Ah okay, this was with fresh pads correct? did you still have enough clearance to get them on without too much issue?

I didn't, but the problem could be solved by using shorter banjo bolts or by filing/grinding down the banjo bolts that are too long.

It just didn't occur to me when I was pressing the piston back in that this was the problem.

I still love the braided lines.
