Correct tyre pressure?

Post by mazdad » Mon Sep 21, 2009 9:59 am

Just had the two new Toyo Proxes T1R's fitted and decided to up-date the sticker inside the drivers door jam to show psi as well as the kPa (kgf/cm2) info recorded there by Mazda.
Well - the label clearly shows my correct tyre size - 205/45R16 83W, but indicates 180 {1.8} for the correct pressure.
180 kPa = 26.11 psi.
So why have the fitters put 40 psi in and why did the previous owner have 40 psi in the Yokohama Decibel's?

well the fitters put 36psi in mine. I havn't found any uneven weat yet and the contact patch seems to be right when looking at wet tyre marks.

I have a feeling they pump them up so much to ensure the bead seats & seals properly-especially on innertube free tyres which are the safest due to they usuually deflate slowly if punctured. You wouldnt want your front tyres to deflate rapidly at highway speeds!
I always reset my tyre pressures after punctures & new tyres.
